The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a frequent stop for us. We watched the young Great White grow and survive
quite well in the Outer Bay Exhibit. This was the first monitored Great White for any length of time, and so
much was learned from her. She was returned to the Pacific one quiet morning long before dawn. Her personal
staff took her by boat to the mouth of the bay, and carefully released. Thirty days later the small monitor she
carried was released and popped to the surface, just as planned. She had traveled back to the area in
Southern California where she was originally injured and trapped in a fishing net. We have reeducated
ourselves and our grandchildren on shark culture and conservation in the new exhibit, “Sharks: Myth and
Mystery”

Pacific Grove Grandparents
This pod of seven Orcas were spotted on one of our whale watching trips, leaving from Monterey’s Fisherman's
wharf pier.
On our grand daughter Madisyn's first trip out, we saw three humpback whales breach. She got to see the best of
their well rehearsed, and staged show. The sea was rough and rolling that day. So the humpbacks seemed to take
time out for a game of follow the leader.
The seven Orcas , pictured, were on a more serious mission patrolling the harbor mouth from Santa Cruise to
Pacific Grove.
